With the increased attention given to environmentally sensitive building design and construction, the recycled content and disposability of building products can be an important consideration. In general, ceiling manufacturing is an environmentally compatible process, as pointed out in the AIA Environmental Resource Guide.
Armstrong ceilings also:
- Contain high levels of recycled material
- In most cases can now be reclaimed and recycled rather than shipped to landfills
CEILING RECLAMATION: A SOLUTION FOR CEILING DISPOSAL
Mineral fiber ceilings from renovation projects can now be efficiently reclaimed in many geographic areas through the Armstrong Ceilings Reclamation Program. The process is a natural extension of Armstrong's use of recycled materials in environmentally compatible manufacturing. It's a responsible, often cost-effective way to:
- Reclaim most mineral fiber ceilings at the end of their useful life
- Reduce solid waste in landfills
This Reclamation Program is available to many building owners who choose Armstrong ceiling systems in their renovation projects. In addition to being environmentally responsible, it can frequently be less expensive than costs associated with local handling, transport and landfill fees.
Building owners should contact their Armstrong representative to learn more about the program's easy five-step process and to evaluate the economics of reclamation.
ACOUSTICAL MATERIAL SERVICES – RECYCLE PROGRAM
AMS is excited to support Armstrong’s endeavors to promote recycling of acoustical ceiling tiles.
Program Details:
- In order to participate with Armstrong/AMS recycle program, contractor/owner must purchase replacement tiles from AMS.
- Ceiling tile must meet specific substrate requirements; (Review by Armstrong Representative)
- AMS requires prior approval before contractor/owner can utilize Recycle Program for each project.
- Contractor is responsible for palletizing NEATLY.
- Recycle ceiling tile must be stacked neatly on 4 x 4 pallets approximately 6’ high.
- Pallet must be shrink-wrapped.
- AMS will provide pallets and rolls of shrink-wrap for a nominal charge of $30.00 per pallet.
- Recycle material must be stacked so that other pallets can be stacked on top of each other without falling over.
- Contractor can request for pick-up of palletized material with a pick-up charge.
- AMS reserves the right to refuse any and all ceiling tile if the above requirements are not met.
- Any ceiling tile that contains asbestos will be refused.
